Monday, 26 July 2010 14:07 Malahide residents and visitors had the chance to experience all the town has to offer as the first ever ‘Malahde Has It’ event took place last week. The event launched this year for the first time and ran from Thursday the 22nd until Sunday the 25th with many events throughout Malahide. “It’s a showcase for Malahide, to show everything the town has to offer, the location, great services, sporting facilities and a huge array of unique features like Malahide Castle,” Al Ryan, President of Malahide Chamber of Commerce told the County Leader. The aim of the event is to heighten the profile of the town, promote local business, provide something to the community and attract people into the town. ‘Malahide Has It’ provided plenty of exciting opportunities for everyone to enjoy the town and provide a boost for the community. “It’s trying to revive community spirit in Malahide, the Chamber of Commerce have been working very hard to promote business and attract people into the town, it’s free and it’s available to everyone,” he said. Casserly’s Funfair could be seen on Lady’s Acre, while The Green hosted live music, face painting, balloon magic, a barbecue and tug-of-war competition during the weekend. Malahide Tidy Towns Group also held the ‘Great Malahide Quiz’, in which a staggering 50 teams entered paying €40 a team; all proceeds going to improving Malahide town and environment. New Street also featured live music by Paul Harrington and local bands, while a Where’s Wally competition was held for the kids. Al Ryan said: “We had fantastic co-operation from the County Council, the Gardaí and the local community.” It is hoped that the ‘Malahide has it’ event will act as a template to develop a more regular festival in Malahide in the future. |
