Skerries Getting Ready For Tidy Towns
Monday, 26 July 2010 12:00
The Tidy Towns season is now well and fruly underway, with many towns across the North County trying to exceed the excellent results attained in the past few seasons. Skerries is no different and their Tidy Town Committee would like to wish the New Skerries & District Chamber of Commerce well and look forward to working with them to promote the town and therefore business. Tidy Towns Chairperson, Anne Doyle said, “We wish to congratulate the business people for the manner in which they are presenting their business premises, especially as the mood in the country is so negative. Additional window boxes on premises would enhance the town further and add welcome colour to the environment. It is a pleasure to sit and have a coffee at one of the outdoor seating areas and watch the world go by, or at least Skerries!”. An upbeat Anne said, “Adopt a Beach has been a very positive initiative in the town. We wish to thank all the volunteers who help us in numerous ways, from picking litter to adopting flower containers or coming out to help with work parties. They are instrumental in our bid to keep Skerries at the top of the National Competition. We are now only eight points behind last year’s winner. “We would like to remind businesses and residents of our local competitions into which all are automatically entered. They will be judged in July and winners will be announced at our local award ceremony later in the year. We hope everyone has a good summer and fingers crossed for Tidy Towns results in September,” she concluded.

Dedicated members of Skerries Tidy Towns committee set out last Monday evening (19th July) in an effort to spruce up the town as they bid to go one better than the terrific result they achieved in last year's Tidy Towns competition.
