Minister, Batt O’Keeffe paid a number of visits to businesses in Swords and surrounding areas last Thursday week, July 15th. His first port of call was to Swords Enterprise Park, Drinan Centre. This opening of the centre, which is a local authority initiative for start up businesses in the area, is seen as a major boost at a time when businesses need a lift. He was there to witness the unveiling of this most impressive Centre by County Mayor, Ken Farrell. The large gathering included local representatives and Council officials and County Manager, David O’Connor spoke of the Council’s priority in creating employment opportunities in the North County. The Minister went on a walkabout and visited many of the businesses, among them SmartBin, a new and innovative company based in the centre. He then cut the ribbon at the official opening of that company.

The Minister then headed to Dublin Airport Logistics Park to visit Simtech,  a company that specialises in support and complementary services to the aviation industry. This company provides air traffic control services and helicopters for corporate events like the upcoming Ryder Cup. Having enjoyed a simulated flight here, it was back to earth for the energetic Minister, with a courtesy visit to the offices of North County Leader, the No 1 local newspaper. Here he met and mixed with the staff and was given a very welcome reception. This however, was not the last function for the tireless minister as he attended a reception in Airside, which was organised by Fingal Dublin Chamber. Here he mingled with some of the leading business people in the North County, which is bound to have had a very positive effect on the confidence of the robust business sector in the region.  The minister’s visit will be seen as a further vote of confidence in the North County as a viable place to do business.
