It was a hugely successful weekend for the Aer Lingus Swim Club at theĀ Irish National Swimming Championships Division 1 recently. The National Aquatic Centre was the venue. From the word go, the club dominated with personal and team records tumbling along the way. It was an event of many highlights but the icing on the cake came with the girls U12 IM relay team. Coming together after a long day of individual swims, the Swords quartet of Saoirse Kilgarrif, Faye Harling, Ali Berry and Anne-Marie Torsney gave an impressive display of power and determination, dominating from start to finish. First to get into the water was Saoirse Kilgarrif, who launched the team into the lead with a very lightening quick 37.06 in the Backstroke. Then Faye Harling took over with Breaststroke closing in 1.18.20, a fantastic individual lap of 41.14. Ali Berry followed her on Fly touching the pad at 1.50.57 after swimming an excellent lap in 32.37. At this stage, it was already clear who was going to win the race. Anne-Marie Torsney went for the final leg on Freestyle producing her best swim of the day with a superb time of 30.43, bringing the Aer Lingus team home in an astonishing 2.21.00. Saoirse, Faye, Ali and Anne-Marie all rose to the occasion and produced a fabulous group performance. |
