New Jerseys Bring Success For Ardgillan College

On Monday, March 1st, Barry Ryan presented the students of Ardgillan Community College with full GAA kit on behalf of O’Dwyers GAA Club. The Principal, Michael O’Leary, expressed his gratitude to everybody involved with O’Dwyers GAA club. He thanked Barry for the tremendous support and assistance that the Balbriggan club has given the college since it began last September.
Mr O’Leary promised to support and encourage GAA in the college and he hopes that the college may repay the club by providing them with some young hurlers and footballers. The first signs of this happened last Tuesday, when the first year students fought bravely to hold off the challenge of Swords rivals, Fingal Community College in a very exciting game held at O’Dwyers pitch in Balbriggan. Sporting their new purple and gold jerseys, Ardgillan played against the breeze in the first half and despite some wayward shooting, led by three points at the break. Despite being wind assisted in the second half, Ardgillan made heavy weather of proceedings. Fingal finished the better of the two sides and the young students of Ardgillan were glad to hear the final whistle blow, holding out for a one point victory. They were led by Luke Kimmage who played a captain’s role. John Reynolds, Charles Power and Brian Smyth were also outstanding. They now await the challenge from Synge St CBS in the next round and we wish them well.
