Twelve-year-old Christen Mooney had plenty of reason to celebrate following the nomination of “The Secret of Kells” for this year’s Oscar awards.

Nominated under the “Best Animated Movie” category, Christen played the voice over role of Aisling in the movie, the character of a young girl who plays the forest in the enchanted fairy tale.

It was through the Billy Barry school that Christen got picked to play the role where her mam Audrey said, “they knew straight away that she was the person for the role”. The Secret of Kells is a story set in the 9th century that sees Brendan (played by Brendan Gleeson) seek out his dream. On his journey he comes across Aisling (played by Christen) who plays in the woods and in ways, represents the Spirit of Ireland.

But while many of the cast have jetted to L.A to be at the awards, Christen has opted to stay at home.

“They had invited us to go to the Oscars, but we can’t because Christen is going to Euro Disney on March 15th to dance there on the 17th and it would be just too much, but all of the Irish cast and crew are going over” said  Mum Audrey.

While The Secret of Kells did not pick up an oscar award it looks like this won’t be the last we’ll see of the bubbly 12-year-old who is also currently in the Knorr ad that we have all seen on our screens, Christen told the County Leader that she has ideas other than acting on her mind.

“I’d love to do acting when I get older, but, well, I’d really like to be a dentist!” she said. “Last year I broke my tooth and the way they fixed it, it was just like a miracle. So I said this is what I want to be!”.
