Local Fianna Fáil TD, Michael Kennedy, met officials from ESB to discuss the recent power failures in North County Dublin and to get an update on the proposed works planned for the area to rectify the issue.

During discussions with a number of ESB personnel, Kennedy highlighted the many power failures experienced by residents in Kinsealy, Drynam Hall, Malahide and Portmarnock. Deputy Kennedy said, “I was informed that proposed works valued at €1 million will take place over the next six months.” Some reinforcement works are underway and additional work will be carried out over the coming months. The reinforcement projects include the upgrade of the existing 38,000 V station in Malahide, the construction of 3.7km of 10,000 V overhead line and the installation of 1.7km of 10,000 V underground cable. Also, works are thought to include the installation of new cable in the Kinsealy and Seabury areas” added Kennedy. “I understand the majority of these works will be completed by the Summer and the overall completion date is Autumn 2010. These power failures have been a major inconvenience to local residents over the last month so I am pleased that these plans are in place. I will monitor this matter closely to ensure the proposed works are carried out quickly and effectively,” added Kennedy.
