Malahide Bridge Club celebrated 25 years in existence in their purpose built bridge clubhouse in Broomfield Malahide on Friday, 10th February last. The occasion was celebrated with a champagne reception and, of course, some bridge. All 14 past Presidents were there, as well as current President, Catherine Byrne. Mary Kelly-Rogers, the President of the Irish Bridge Union, opened the celebrations and presided over the prize giving. Successes over the years include the hosting of the All-Ireland pairs championships, the Moylan Cup. This tournament hosts teams from all over the North County and the island of Ireland. Malahide also proudly boasts the biggest bridge club in Ireland with over 500 members. These members will be greatly appreciated when Ireland hosts the European Bridge championships in Citywest in June this year. Their current success is thanks to a lot of hard work by their members over the years. In particular, past President Willie Kehoe played a huge role in securing a permanent home for the club. Not only did his work serve the club, it has also served Malahide. Mary encouraged new people to take up the sport saying “Bridge is therapeutic, inexpensive, peaceful and scientifically proven to help prevent Alzheimer’s.” Catherine would like to thank all the members for their commitment and hard work over the years. We wish them all the best for the next 25 years.
