Swords residents were recently invited to have their say over proposals for a new state-of-the-art sports and community hall in Kinsealy. Plans for the Liam Rodgers Centre – named after a late local resident who spent years campaigning for the facility – have been put on display by the County Council and work is expected to begin on the project in the autumn. Located to the rear of the new Scoil an Duinninigh building on Feltrim Road, the centre will be built beside the Swords Baptist Church complex, which is currently under construction. A multipurpose sports hall is planned, containing four badminton courts and a basketball court, changing rooms, showers, an umpire room, meeting rooms, toilets, a reception desk and more are also planned across two floors, with an outdoor football pitch earmarked on a site alongside the building. The plans are currently on public display at the County Hall and River Valley Community Centre and submissions were taken from residents up until last week. All going to schedule, the project should be given the go-ahead by the local authority in this coming spring, with works expected to begin by the end of the summer.
