Balbriggan was recently featured on the very entertaining BBC 2 series: 'Great British Railway Journeys: Goes to Ireland' When Balbriggan and District Historical Society (BDHS) assisted the researchers, the result was that viewers were treated to the wonderful heritage of the town and the present thriving community was shown in the best positive way. The Historical Society were more than happy to assist and were delighted with the result of the programme, and believe that it now stands as a strong testament to the rich historical links of the town. Speaking to the County Leader, Chairman of BDHS, Brian Howley said: “Michael Portillo (the presenter) seemed very much at ease and enjoyed himself immensely, never more so than when he was engaging with the local people. Certainly, Balbriggan was portrayed as a charming town, steeped in history with a unique past and most definitely somewhere worth a visit for all tourists from either home or abroad.”
