Balbriggan Cancer Support Group had a very positive 2011, filled with lots of events and campaigns, such as Balbriggan Summerfest and the BCSG being awarded a plaque from the Irish Cancer Society as the group is now affiliated with the ICS. The biggest achievement of last year was the opening of their new centre at Unit 23 in Balbriggan Industrial Estate on Harry Reynolds Road. The premises was donated to the group by McLaughlin’s Oil company and the group received great support in transforming the empty space into a warm and welcoming home for all people affected by cancer and those who care for them. The centre in Balbriggan is the only Cancer Support Centre existing in the North County. The BCSG committee were grateful for all the support they received and told the County Leader: “On behalf of the group, we would like to thank everyone who has assisted us reaching one of our biggest goals, when we proudly opened the centre. We would also like to send sincere thanks to everyone who has kindly participated in fundraising events in aid of our charity and to those who have donated to the group. We hope 2012 brings a bigger and brighter further for the centre and indeed for the local community.” The group has already a number of events lined up for 2012, one of them being for St Patrick’s Day, when Balbriggan Cancer Support Group will be organising a fun run in the town.
