St Patrick’s Day Captures Wonderful Community Spirit

SwordsTidy Towns Group getting ready to take their place in the Swords parade

Large numbers braved the cold weather to attend the St Patrick’s Day parades held across the North County. Parades were held in Swords, Balbriggan, Skerries, Lusk and Rush. All parades demonstrated local community endeavour at its best, with a great sense of local pride displayed.

It is estimated that approximately 12,000 people attended the Balbriggan parade, 20,000 attended the Swords parade and a further 15,000 attended the parades in Skerries, Lusk and Rush.

Onlookers were entertained by the variety of floats at each parade, with many local community groups and local businesses taking part. A total of 150 members of St Finian’s GAA club dressed up as yellow minions from the film Despicable Me during the Swords parade, while 150 members from the North Dakota State University Marching Band also took part in the Swords parade. 500 members of the Fingallians GAA club also took part in the Swords parade.
