On the occasion of Martin Finnegan’s tenth anniversary, a special tribute has been lined up to mark a decade since the local motorcycle ace tragically lost his life in an accident.
The Martin Finnegan Supporters/Friends of Martin and a number of his former sponsors have joined together, to run a one off Superbike race at Skerries, that will have the best prize money for a national race in the country.
Former employer and sponsor of Martin, Tony Carton has joined forces with another sponsor Eamon Mulligan to bring this event to the fans.
Tony said: “We felt it appropriate to honour and remember Martin in some worthwhile way. We decided that a race in his memory at Skerries 2018 would be a fitting gesture.
“A Superbike race with attractive prize money would entice a number of the top rides to enter and make it a memorable event. We are aiming at a prize fund of €10-€15K and in this regard, we are asking former sponsors, supporters and friends of Martin to contribute towards this fund.
“We have the support of the Finnegan extended family and the Loughshinny Club and we hope to make it an exceptional event in his memory, for all the enjoyment he gave us, albeit far too short.
“We know a vast number of fans of Martin would like him remembered, and hopefully we can rely on your generosity. Not that he would ever be forgotten, but rather remembered as one of the greats of Irish Motorcycling.”
“We have opened an account in the Progressive Credit Union, and donations may be forwarded to the following Account No BIC : BLCUIE21 and IBAN IE56BLCU99102411216421”
Martin’s Remembrance Mass is on Sunday 6th May in St Macullin’s Parish Church, The Green Lusk at 11:30am.
