Donabate Student Swims To Success

Ten-year-old Evan Simpson from Donabate proudly shows off his national swimming medals at the National Aquatic Centre

A Donabate youngster has reached the headlines, with a remarkable performance in the schools national swimming finals that were held recently.

Evan Simpson, (10), a student of Donabate Portrane Educate Together National School competed in the Irish Minor Schools Swimming Championship on Sunday 11th February last.

Having qualified in the Leinster Championships in October 2017, Evan competed against the finest swimmers in Ireland in the 11-year-old category in 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke events. Evan won Gold in the Butterfly and Silver in the Backstroke events.

Hundreds of swimmers who had qualified in their regional finals from schools within the island of Ireland competed in the event held in the National Aquatic Centre.

Evan swims for the NAC who train at the National Aquatic Centre and just maybe, we will have an Olympic champion to celebrate in a few years.
