Last year was a very successful year for Swords Tidy Towns and its hard working dedicated volunteers.
Chairperson Ken Duffy told the County Leader: “In the 2017 Supervalu Tidy Towns Competition, we won for the first time, the National Diversity Award and a Silver Medal.
“At the 2017 Fingal Cleaner Communities Awards we won the Best Example Of A Community Environmental Initiative Swords/Balbriigan Award for our Holy Well project. We were also presented with the Overall Competition Winners Trophy.
“In the Carlton Hotel we were presented at an award dinner with our Level 2 Fingal Managing Volunteers Certificate
Dublin Bus presented Swords Tidy Towns with a Community Spirit Award.
“We will endeavour in 2018 to achieve the same honours and maybe improve on them with the commitment and hard work of our wonderful volunteers.
“Swords Tidy Towns are now seeking new members for 2018, all we ask is a couple of hours of your time each week to join in with our friendly group. There is a great social aspect to volunteering, many a friendship has blossomed within the ranks of our members.
“There are a multitude of skill sets needed by Swords Tidy Towns, its not all litter picking. Examples: Fundraising, IT Skills, Horticulture, Bricklaying, Painting, Gardening, Lobbying, Networking, Community Development, Social Media, Artists etc.
