A cheque for the impressive amount of €4,030 was presented to the Irish Cancer Society, as a result of the recent Valley Walk in River Valley, Swords. This was the 11th annual walk and it proved to be one of the most successful to date.
The cheque was presented by walk organiser, Margaret Harris, herself a cancer survivor, who has dedicated her time selflessly for this great cause. Walk committee member, Kathleen Corby accompanied her as they made the presentation to Brenda McCarthy of the Irish Cancer Society at Peacocks Bar & Restaurant in River Valley.
Margaret Harris said: “I would like to thank all of the walkers and local businesses, especially Fiona Peacock for providing refreshments and the venue after the walk. I would also like to thank all of our wonderful sponsors for donating all the raffle prizes and spot prizes. Thanks also to Kathleen Corby who did such a fine job in sourcing all of the prizes.”
In reply, Brenda McCarthy said: “On behalf of the Irish Cancer Society, we are extremely grateful to Margaret and her wonderful committee for fundraising for the past 11 years for us. Without people like Margaret, we wouldn’t be able to provide our services.”
