Swords Golf Club’s Annual Captains Charity Day took place recently Their chosen charities this year are RNLI and Cystic Fibrosis, both of which are very close to the hearts of many in the club.
Lady captain, Orla McGuinness said, “Gareth Morrison from the RNLI was presented with his cheque by club member, Michael Smith, who is the father of Ciaran Smith, the Oldtown man who was on Rescue 116 Helicopter when it tragically crashed in March. The RNLI in particular have been a huge help to the Smiths and all the families involved and the club wanted to help them in a small way.”
She continued, “Cystic Fibrosis is another charity that we like to support as we have members and relatives that have been affected by this disease and are looking forward to a day in the near future when medication can treat all cystic fibrosis patients.
“Both Captains wish to thank especially all our sponsors on the day and all our members who participated in the 9 hole golf event which had to be rescheduled due to poor weather conditions on the original date. Their generosity was overwhelming and the amount raised was €6680, meaning that €3340 was presented for each charity, far exceeded our expectations,” she said.
