Cross Border Health Must Be Protected

Local TD, Louise O’Reilly (SF) and her party’s Health spokesperson, has accused Minister for Health, Simon Harris and his department of not taking Brexit seriously, after officials were unable to tell her how many procedures were carried out by the NHS under the Cross Border Health Directive in 2016.

O’Reilly was speaking after recent reports of the threat posed to cross border health projects by Brexit. O’Reilly told the County Leader,“While these reports are disturbing, they are not surprising. The twelve large scale projects funded by the EU as well as cross border mental health projects must be protected. People living in border areas are rightly concerned about this revelation and we cannot be reassured that the government and the Department of Health have this matter under control”.
