St Finnians 60th 13Former Principal Denise Kelly and Rita McCall ex Deputy Principal and Stephen Brett Deputy Principal

There was great celebration in St Finian’s Community College last week as pupils, teachers, parents and local politicians gathered to commemorate the school’s Diamond anniversary. A wonderful display of all the events that the school have run over the last 60 years where played on a giant screen and a lot of work was put into making this display.

A band played and refreshments where served as the school welcomed all the visitors who attended. The school, which is the oldest secondary school in Swords, first opened in September 1956 in North Street/Seatown Road with 107 students. Unlike other secondary schools at the time, no fees were charged and this spirit of free and inclusive education for all continues to this day.The current school building in Castlefarm opened in September 1981 and plans for an extension to the current building are on-going as the current student body is set to increase in the next couple of years.
