Brian Hayes MEP is pictured with students from St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Rush, who were presented with an EU School Ambassador Award, along with their teacher, Ms. Anita Irwin.
The European Parliament Ambassador School Programme was launched as a pilot in 2015. This year, 24 schools took part in the programme, six of which are in Dublin. The programme was devised to engage 16-18 year olds in the work and functions of the European Parliament. “I was lucky enough to meet with students from St. Joseph’s when they were presented with their certificates at the European Parliament offices last week. Ambassadors are asked to organise a Europe Day event, which can be an EU quiz, a mock European election, a debate on a European issue, a European food tasting day – there are loads of ideas. The St. Joseph’s students impressed me with their questions and insights and showed their genuine interest in politics and how it can influence all our lives,” said Brian Hayes MEP
