The Residents Association of Knocksedan Swords are calling on the National Transport Authority (NTA) to extend some of the Dublin Bus routes by one stop by moving the terminus from Swords Manor to the entrance to the estate of Knocksedan Demesne.
The housing estate of Knocksedan Demesne is over fifteen years old now and has a large number of teenagers attending school and College. There are also a lot of other residents travelling into Swords and surrounding areas through to the city centre with no cars or travel availability.
The current terminus of Dublin Bus numbers 41, 41C and 41X that service Swords Manor is a four minute drive away from Knocksedan. However when walking this dangerous journey on a narrow twisty back road,it can take up to thirty minutes or more. A lot of teenagers use the forest at the back of the estate as a shortcut to get to Swords Manor. This journey usually takes at least twenty-five minutes and can be quite terrifying when walking alone.
Recently the 41X Dublin Bus Route began a service from Knocksedan after a lot of pleading from the residents. This is a great start for some students, but still leaves a lot of others stranded unless the chance of driving or car-pooling is taken. The service proceeds twice in the morning from Knocksedan at 7.20am and 7.45am. This stop is also the last for the journeys that depart from UCD at 5.00pm and 5.15pm.
Local resident of Knocksedan, Christen Mooney told the County Leader, “I frequently need to use the services that Dublin Bus provides to Swords Manor, it is very frustrating to see that no further extensions on the routes departing from Swords Manor have been made to avail of those who cannot use the 41X and that instead, have to make dangerous journeys when they need to use the bus.”
The County Leader tried to contact Dublin Bus,but at the moment are awaiting a comment.
