Malahide Community School Sporting Prowess

It has been a great few weeks for girls sports teams at Malahide Community School recently.
First up, the school’s 1st year girls basketball team won the Dublin A League on Tuesday 5th April. The match was played in the Oblate Hall where they beat Loreto Foxrock by 34-13. Second to get a taste for victory were the 2nd year Hockey team. They won their Dublin Minor League match just before the Easter holidays. Speaking to the County Leader, Deputy Principal, Jean-Marie Ward said; “ With the basketball the girls played fantastically well and never lost their heads. Congratulations should go to their coach too, Fiona Daly. The same goes for the Hockey team. The girls played brilliantly and we are all so proud of them. They did themselves and the school proud.”
This is part of a growing pattern of sporting success for the local school. Their Senior Rugby team beat Tallaght Community School in the Senior Development Shield Quarter Final in March and one 6th year and one 1st year student, Niamh Corry and Seanie Dalton competed in the All Ireland Cross Country race in March. Niamh won a bronze medal in the senior competition and Seanie came 6th in his race. This was a huge achievement as there were over 120 runners taking part. Niamh will now go on to represent Ireland in the school internationals.
