A record 2.6 million passengers passed through Dublin Airport last month, making it the busiest August ever in the airport’s history. Traffic increased by 15 per cent compared to this time last year, as all segments of the market increased.
Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe increased by 12 per cent, with over 1.4 million passengers travelling to European destinations during the month. Almost 823,000 passengers travelled to UK destinations in August, an increase of 18 per cent compared to last year. Transatlantic traffic increased by 23 per cent with almost 319,000 passengers travelling on flights to and from North America last month. Traffic to other international destinations, which includes flights to the Middle East and Africa, increased by 29 per cent, to just under 86,000.
Passenger numbers on domestic routes increased by seven per cent with over 8,500 people taking domestic flights last month. So far this year, more than 16.8 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport, a 15 percent increase when compared to the same period last year. Dublin Airport has welcomed almost 2.3 million extra passengers in the first eight months of the year.
