The Leo Halpin Great Cappagh Walk, now in its 10th year, will take place on Sunday, 13th September in Oldtown from 3.00pm. Entertainment for all the family includes BBQ kindly sponsored by SuperValu Balbriggan, large farmers market courtesy of local farmers, vintage car display and much more.
Cappagh Hospital patient, Leo Halpin has been a voluntary fundraiser and supporter of the hospital’s Charity Foundation for many years. He champions the work of Cappagh Hospital Foundation by organising the annual ‘Great Cappagh Walk’ in Oldtown. Last year’s Oldtown Great Cappagh Walk raised an astonishing E10,130, bringing to over E80,000 the total funds raised from this event since it first began.
“Leo is at the core of our volunteer fundraisers,”said John Dennehy, Executive Director of Cappagh Hospital Foundation. “He is the backbone of our fundraising work in the North County and his efforts generate substantial funding for Cappagh Hospital every year. The Leo Halpin Great Cappagh Walk continues to make a real and very valuable contribution to the care and treatment of patients at Cappagh Hospital and we are indebted to Leo for his continued support. We also greatly appreciate the many individuals and businesses in Oldtown and the greater North County area for their support of this event every year,” he said.
Leo’s contribution will go directly to fund the development of a rehabilitation gym at Cappagh’s Active Rehabilitation Unit. The ethos of the Active Rehabilitation Unit is to help patients return to an active, confident and sociable life following a trauma, or an acute medical episode. The new customised rehabilitation gym will provide a large, dedicated space for patients to complete their physiotherapy programmes, which will help them return to a more independent life.
