Unique Project For Swords

old photographs

The County Council Heritage Office needs your memories and photographs, as part of the Fingal Community Excavation Project 2015-16. They are putting together an exhibition of photographs called Swords Castle: My Castle. They are asking people to contribute their photos, memories, drawings, newspaper cuttings, events, paintings, brochures, basically anything you have relating to Swords Castle.
The proposal is to make a timeline of all these images which will be exhibited in Swords Castle for everyone to see during Heritage Week 2015 (August 22nd-30th). ‘This is part of a unique programme to re-engage people with Swords Castle’ said Fingal’s Community Archaeologist, Christine Baker. ‘If there’s a photo of you in the 1970s having a picnic or just enjoying Swords Castle those are the snapshots we want’.
Well-known local historian Bernadette Marks will be going through the Swords Historical Society archives. ‘We have loads of photos of activities in the Castle especially since Swords Heritage Festival began in 1987, but we will need to search for anything older,’ Christine continued. To be part of this special project, photographs can be emailed to heritage.officer@fingal.ie or prints can be dropped into the Swords Heritage Centre or ring Christine to arrange collection. All prints, photos and other materials will be scanned and returned safely.
