Pieta House, the organisation which helps people with self-harm and suicide, are once again organising their annual Darkness into Light walk. This charity walk will take place in Skerries and Malahide here in the North County, as well as over 80 different venues across the country.
Starting at 4.15am, and crossing the line just as dawn is breaking, the Darkness Into Light annual 5km walk/run, will celebrate its seventh year on Saturday, May 9th, with 80 venues across Ireland and beyond lined up. As this is the 7th year the walk will take place, and organisers are hoping the event will be as successful as it has been in previous years.
On a local level, this special walk, which took place in Newbridge House in 2013 and Malahide Castle in 2014, will now take place in Skerries this year. The organising committee will be doing different events over the weeks running up to the event which takes place on Saturday 9th May at 4.15am. “The reason for it being so early is to symbolise that we start the walk in the darkness and with the rising of the sun our theme Darkness into Light and as we finish our route the sun starts to rise to symbolise hope,” explained Ciara Delves, a representative on the committee.
“We are holding a pre registration day in Lusk, Rush, Skerries and Balbriggan to facilitate people in the coming weeks,” she added. The event was officially launched on Friday last, where actor Stephen Rea, a Donabate local and broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan highlighted the event. Rea has been an avid supporter of the campaign for the last three years.
