Reilly Welcomes Resource Teacher Support

Teacher support

Minister James Reilly TD has welcomed the announcement by Government that additional resources will be allocated to schools, as an interim measure to support those children with Down Syndrome, who are not already supported through the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) annual allocation process. He told the County Leader, “I am delighted that schools will now receive 2.5 resource teacher hours per week for each qualifying child. Many children in the North County will benefit from this decision. Children with Down Syndrome experience a wide range of difficulties, and it is vital that this step is being taken to support their education.” “As Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, I understand that we have more work to do in assisting children with special needs, but I hope that this announcement will go some way towards improving their educational experience.”
Further information will be made available shortly to schools on how to apply for these supports on the NCSE website.
