The second Swords Baldoyle Youth Service Annual Football tournament took place over two consecutive Fridays recently.
The tournament was organised by the JETs (Justice, Education, Training) administration team at the Swords Baldoyle Youth Service offices in Swords. Five local youth organisations put teams forward for this year’s competition in both Junior and Senior categories.
This year’s winners in the senior category were The Liberties, whose star player Ian Byrne also picked up the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award. In the junior category, the Swords team from St Finian’s College took the title, with Leon Redmond showing great promise and taking the junior category’s ‘Player of the Tournament’ title.
The matches were held at the ALSAA Sports Grounds.
Aisling Farrelly, one of the JETs co-ordinators who organised the competition this year said, “This is a fantastic opportunity to get young people from all over Dublin to come together in a spirit of friendly competition. It’s great to see just how much sporting talent there is in Dublin right now and it’s a real privilege to be able to see them in action. We’re already looking forward to next year’s competition when we hope to see twelve teams taking part.”
