The staff and pupils of Donabate Portrane Educate Together were delighted to welcome President Michael D. Higgins, who recently paid a visit to the school. During a speech made during the day, the school said it was an exceptional moment to have an Uachtaráin visit the school. “During the campaign, we noticed that the President was often seen wearing the Know Racism badge and we admired that he stood up against prejudice and injustice,” said a school representative. “The visit to DPETNS is a day we will remember for the rest of our lives and it is made all the more important because an Uachtaráin believes in equality, justice, peace and human rights.” As a token of the visit the school caretaker, Denis Corish, crafted a replica of the Know Racism symbol in brass to present to the President. Designed by John Rocha and commissioned by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform in 2002, the symbol represents Five Continents, One People. The fantastic day was enjoyed by all and will no doubt be remembered by all the pupils and staff for years to come.
