Katie Lynch from Swords was recently awarded for her dedication to volunteer work at a gala dinner in Donegal last week.
Lynch is the first student in north county Dublin to be recognised at the annual Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards and she told the County Leader how much she has enjoyed spending her summers volunteering at Hamilton Park Care facility in Balbriggan. “I really enjoy working in itand working with the elderly, they’re characters and I get a lot out of it,” she said. Lynch was amoung 14 other programme finalists who received a €500 award, engraved silver medallions and personal congratulations from Dr. Jimmy Devins T.D., Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation. Loretto student Lynch received a special recognition awarded for her outstanding voluntary activities, which impressed the judging panel. Pramerica Systems sponsored the event andmanaging director, Henry McGarvey said that,“This national awards ceremony recognises the inspiring volunteer activities undertaken by young people in our communities. We’re always amazed by the level of commitment demonstrated by volunteers like Katie.We were particularly impressed with Katie’s level of commitment and presented her with a special recognition award.” The third year student will sit her junior cert this summer and hopes to volunteer again when her exams finish.
